Advanced Marine Electronics Installer Course
An advanced course is designed for the Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) who wishes to achieve competency in advanced topic areas and concepts. An Advanced MEI certificate is an indication that a mid-level technician has a working knowledge regarding commissioning of a boat and troubleshooting marine electronic devices under supervision of a Certified Marine Electronics Technician (CMET). Topics include: Computers and Networking, NMEA 2000® Installation and Troubleshooting, SSB Installation, Electromagnetic Interference, Testing and Commissioning, Antenna Arrangement and Installation, Transducer and Radar Installation.
Course Materials Include: NMEA 0400 Installation Standards version 3.10 and supplemental course materials.
Pre-requisite: Passed MEI, regardless of time lapse. Certain candidates may take the AMEI course without taking the MEI course as a pre-requisite, however 3 years experience installing marine electronics is required and this must be independently verified by the candidate’s employer and an NMEA Regional Director, with personal knowledge of the candidate’s experience and capabilities. Exemptions from the MEI course will be reviewed case-by-case and are at the discretion of the Executive Director.
Passing Score: 75%
Cost: $450 Member, $650 Non-member
*A 20% discount per class will be offered to those who register three or more employees at any one training event.

The Advanced MEI course is not available through self study. You must take the Advanced MEI course at a location nearest you.

Renewal
You may renew your certificate by completing a renewal form, along with a fee of $100.00 (Member)/$150.00 (Non-member), prior to your certificate expiration date. AMEI's that wish to renew need to provide documentation that they have attended at least three marine electronics manufacturer's technical training seminars within the two year period. Attendance at the NMEA’s Annual Conference and Expo may be listed in additional to technical training seminars.
