NOTE: Due to the Corona Virus outbreak, NMEA may either postpone trainings or run these classes as "Virtual classes" at the same date and time.
Please monitor the NMEA website and training schedule for more information.
The Basic Marine Electronics Installer Course is suitable for marine electronic installers, engine mechanics, boat builders, riggers, product designers, surveyors, etc. This is an introductory course in marine electronics installation that clarifies and defines competent installation practices. Topics include: Ohms law, grounds, battery and battery chargers, DC wiring, EMI, coaxial cables, antennas, AIS, marine VHF radios, transducers, radar, heading sensors, and NMEA data interfacing. An MEI certificate is an indication of a working knowledge of NMEA’s Installation Standard. A Marine Electronics Installer has demonstrated this proficiency by passing an examination designed to measure understanding of those principles.
Course Materials Included with Registration: NMEA 0400 Installation Standards version 4.00 and supplemental course materials.
Passing Score: The passing score of any NMEA installer certification exam is 80% or higher. If a student does not pass, they are allowed one (no charge) proctored re take of the exam at a local library, the NMEA national office, or a local testing center (additional fee may apply at a testing center). This re-take must be arranged by the student and taken within 90 days of the original exam date. If the student does not pass the re-take (or if they do not perform the re-take within 90 days of the original exam date) they must re-attend the training class at a scheduled future date / location, but can do so at a 50% discount.
