Marine Trade Schools
The following trade schools are licensed through an annual Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to teach the basic NMEA installer training materials (Basic MEI and Basic NMEA 2000) in their marine programs. The following trade schools are 2024 NMEA members and have current MOUs for this year. Interested trade schools must have marine trade program to apply for integrating NMEA marine electronics installation curriculum into their program.

Trade School Onboarding Process
NMEA strives to collaborate with marine trade schools across the globe. The process below explains how NMEA licenses our basic marine electronics installer training material to be taught by trade school instructors.
The Trade School becomes a Trade Member of NMEA. Cost is $450 per year.
Trade School Instructor(s) gets certified by attending and passing the 3 basic NMEA Installer Classes (BMEI Coastal/Freshwater, BMEI Offshore Saltwater, Basic NMEA 2000) Passing grade is 80% on all three 50 question exams. The trade school Instructor(s) can attend any regularly scheduled set of classes on the NMEA training schedule. One class is free with NMEA trade membership, the following 2 classes are $520 per class.
Once certified, a MOU is signed with NMEA and Trade School spelling out all details.
At beginning of a semester, the trade school provides NMEA the number of students that have registered for their marine program. Cost is $400 per student, or $200 per certification class. Most trade schools teach both the Basic MEI Installer and the Basic NMEA 2000 Installer certification classes. For both classes the cost is $400 per student.(Example: If 15 students are enrolled, cost is $6000)
After payment is received in full from the trade school, NMEA will send paper books and tests to the school instructor based on the number of students enrolled. This cost also includes both NMEA Installer certifications for the students, providing that they pass both certification exams.
The trade school is then allowed to teach all NMEA basic material to their students. What NMEA teaches in one single day, the trade school has the luxury to slow down the learning and teach one subject per day if preferred, providing no material is changed.
Tests are then administered by the trade school and graded by the trade school. A score report is then sent to NMEA.
NMEA will then issue Certifications (print and web) to the students who have passed the certification exam(s).
