Only the Best Dealers are Master Dealers
The Master Dealer Program is a key component in NMEA’s pledge to the boating public that NMEA dealers have the knowledge and expertise to deliver superior customer service. When boaters the see the Master Dealer logo, they’re getting the best service, equipment, and advice in the marine electronics industry.
Master Dealers are NMEA dealers with a storefront / showroom and a facility for troubleshooting and repair of marine electronics. Master Dealers should have basic inventory of necessary parts available to facilitate quick installation or repair when possible. Master Dealers must have at least one Certified Marine Electronics Technician (CMET) or National Marine Electronics Technicians (NMET) on staff and meet requirements for technical education. Master Dealers must buy direct from at least four NMEA Manufacturer Member companies which includes navigation and/or communications equipment. Additional requirements are detailed in the Master Dealer Application, which must be filled out annually and verified by NMEA staff. A point system based on technical courses that are completed successfully is used to determine a dealership’s eligibility.

The Master Dealer Program focuses on three main areas: technical proficiency, ongoing education, and customer service. In order to ensure a high level of service, dealers participating in the program will provide customers with a Consumer Bill of Rights. The document outlines what customers can expect from the dealer and how to file a complaint if they’re dissatisfied with that experience. Any complaints will be reviewed by the NMEA Master Dealer Committee. Other classifications that will count toward a Master Dealer’s eligibility include the four NMEA installer training classes: Basic Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) Advanced Marine Electronics Installer (AMEI), Basic NMEA 2000 Installer, and Advanced NMEA 2000 Installer.
