The post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) Helps Veterans pay for job training, and all NMEA marine electronics installer trainings and certifications are approved at the non-member rate. The VA License and Certification is a reimbursement process, and therefore the Veteran or their beneficiary will need to pay out of pocket and up front for NMEA installer trainings.
The cost per training is as follows: Basic Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) $650 Basic NMEA 2000 Installer $650 Advanced Marine Electronics Installer (AMEI) $650 Advanced NMEA 2000 Installer $850
Veterans will need to fill out the attached “NMEA Training Course Registration Form”. Upon registering and paying for trainings, NMEA will provide veterans an itemized receipt, along with their certificate(s), when they pass the training course(s). The Veteran will then need to complete the attached “VBA-22-0803-ARE” form and submit to the VA with proof of payment and certificate(s). The application for reimbursement should be mailed to the Regional Processing Office, depending on what state the Veteran is in, it is processed by one of 2 Regional Processing Offices (Buffalo or Muskogee).
Veterans do not need to join NMEA, as the approval will be reimbursed to the veteran at the nonmember rate. NMEA still welcomes veterans as associate members if they wish to join the association and take advantage of great networking opportunities and member benefits.
